I Love a Good Book

I am a reader and this is the stack of books on my night stand.

There's always a stack. The titles will change but the stack never leaves. Some are books that I have selected, a couple are books that my SIL read and recommended and one was a gift.

Not only do I always have a stack by my bedside but I also read 6 titles a year for the book club that I am a member of. Our selection for this month is
Joy in the Morning by Betty Smith. I hate to admit it but I won't have it finished by the time we meet. Tonight. I am enjoying it though and I will finish it.

Not only will we be discussing that book but we will also be selecting the books we will be reading in 2009. We are supposed to bring suggestions. I have a tendency to always have a running list of books that I want to read and it's quite lengthy. I'll be considerate and limit my list. Here are my top suggestions.

Have you read any of these? Are there others you would recommend?

have you read the Knitting club book? I have been curious if that is a good book. Your list looks good. what did you think of "The Shack"?

I haven't read the Knitting Club book but my SIL did and loved it. I think there's a sequel to it available now also.
I enjoyed The Shack -- the physical perceptions of God, Jesus and Spirit were a bit different than what mine are. And, I believe it's possible to have surreal moments with Him.

I have The Shack on my to-be-read pile. I really want to read that Friday Night Knitting Club and am going to try to read that this year.

Right now I am working on Loving Frank (which is REALLY good) and

I haven't read any of the books you have shown :( I do love to read but finding the time is difficult. I think my new year's resolution will be to read 2 books in 09. You have given me a good place to start!

Amy, glad to hear that Loving Frank is good. I've wanted to read it, especially because I work in the field of architecture.

On my nightstand I have a mixed stack of books I've read, am reading, and recently acquired but not yet reading. They are:
*A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - read some months ago and a new favorite
*50 Acres and a Poodle - from Rechelle, finished reading last month
*The Glass Castle - on recommendation from both you and Rechelle, read within two days of receiving even though they were very busy days without the reading
*Gypsies - a National Geographic book I picked up at the library sale and read a bit of from time to time
*a wildflower book I bought from the library sale shelf
*America and Americans and Selected Nonfiction - which I've been about 20 pages from finishing for months

I think I need some more books. Well, and I really need to finish America and Americans. I lost my momentum on that one somehow though I enjoyed many of the articles and essays. I was looking at this stack just the other night, glanced at the back of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and thought maybe I should read Joy in the Morning. I think I will. You and Rechelle have proved good at recommending books.
