call me old fashioned but i prefer books

During our Thanksgiving travels, I happened to glance around me while I was waiting at SEATAC and did a quick count of those reading books. 13 of us within just 2 rows of seating.

Recently there's been a lot of talk about electronic readers like Kindle and nook. I don't own one nor do I have a desire to.

While at a tradeshow in October, the gentleman in the booth next to me saw me reading a book and asked if I owned a Kindle. I told him no and that I didn't want one. When asked why I responded with, 'I like the weight of the book in my hand and turning the pages. I've been a book girl for a very long time and I don't intend to go electronic where books are concerned.' He was surprised.

Why must everything be electronic? Some things are left best unchanged and I think a book is one of those things.

I love browsing in bookstores and libraries. I find such satisfaction in selecting and reading a book. It's a great escape. A favorite way to unwind at the end of the day. Call me old fashioned but I'll keep my books, thank you.

Is an electronic reader on your list? Amazon says it's one of the most requested gifts this holiday season.

I couldn't agree more! I love my books. My Christmas list is way more practical with things like wool socks and a windshield scraper on it. lol

no way will electronics EVER replace books for me. everything has it's place...and I appreciate electronics...but there's nothing like a good book and a comfy chair. no kindles for this girl!

I've heard of the Kindle but never seen one. It just doesn't sound appealing to me for all the reasons you listed. It seems like it would be fairly small, too, and I think I'd be annoyed with having to continuously scroll. I've tried reading some online books and I just didn't care for that experience. As much as I'm on the computer, I think I prefer a page to a monitor for any lengthy reading.

I am soooo with you. Paper. Give me paper! Libraries too. I love the lap top, iTouch and all the electronic goodies, but I will never part with a real book!

No way! Books are much better and I love the smell of a new book! :)

my vote is with you. everyone seems to be talking about them, but there is something about the feel and the smell and the physicality of a book...

I do have a Kindle and I will tell you when it is ideal- for traveling! It is so much easier to pop it in my purse and take it with me to the airport instead of the five books that I used to put in my suitcase :) I use it a lot for that, but otherwise do prefer the library books :)

Don't forget the smell of the new pages! :) A Kindle is on Andy's list however he won't be getting one. But if that's what it takes for him to read more then I'm all for it. For me, I'll stick to the real thing!
