workday snacks

Since I said I was going to be mindful for 2011 about a lot of things, including food, I have tried to do just that this week.

I get hungry between meals. Let's face it. I need more than 3 squares a day. My body tells me it needs food - - about 9:45AM and again about 4:00PM. Rather than suffering, I pack snacks to take to the office.. This morning it was veggies and string cheese. I packed blueberries and vanilla yogurt for the afternoon. Unfortunately, I didn't get to eat them because I was too busy with work. However, they will be there tomorrow.

I have a file cabinet drawer that I try to keep stocked with good for me snacks for those days when the mornings are too hectic to pull anything together. Some of my favorites are almonds, granola bars, whole grain crackers, and vanilla wafers for when I need to have a sweet fix.

Snacks keep my blood sugar stable and I don't overdo it at lunch or when I get home because I'm not starving. Not to mention that I just feel better which keeps me happy. Plus it keeps me out of the potato chip bag.

Yum! I take almonds with me, too...they're surprisingly filling and satisfying. I am currently making granola...that might be yummy to take to have with your vanilla, too!

Nancy,
Do you work full time? I looked at your picture and chuckled a bit. I just re-joined Weight Watchers on their new PointsPlus plan, and I have calculated that the amount of points listed there was 2. (And that's GOOD!)

I keep some snacks at work, although I only work until 1:30 p.m. I still get the munchies and it helps to keep food at the office. Now I'll have to get rid of the Ritz crackers and replace it with something a bit healthier!

Great idea --- now I want some string cheese! I can't hold out between meals, either.

I cannot go w/o a snack between meals! What kind of yogurt do you eat? I have tried to find one that doesn't have artificial sweeteners, yet, not loaded with calories.

@Anonymous ~ this week I happen to be eating Dannon All Natural Vanilla Yogurt. I haven't double-checked the label but it probably has artificial sweeteners. Do you like Greek yogurt? There are several brands available on the market and I bet you could find one that is all natural.
