B3's Birthday Cake

We're having a party at our house Friday night. A birthday party to celebrate Blonde 3's 12th birthday.

She found this cake

in this book

and thought she should have one for her party.

I can bake a mean cake but I am in no way a cake decorator. I told B3 that I thought we'd be better off making cupcakes. She didn't agree.

So, being the good mother that I am, I agreed to attempt this. What was I thinking? I think the answer is that I wasn't thinking.

I know, I know. It doesn't look at all like the picture. More like something from a Star Wars movie. Or a melting igloo. No matter. We'll be eating it with ice cream and I know it tastes good because I sneaked a little bite. And the best part is that we made a memory -- I guarantee you B3 will never forget this, nor will she let me.

Found you through Happy to Be at Home. Sounds like a fun series over there!

I guarantee you that this cake turned out better than I could have done! I can bake...but decorating is NOT my gift! I think it's great that you made this for your daughter!

I think the cake looks great - certainly homemade. I make all my kids birthday cakes usually making them select the more simpler ones. They never look that good but they love them and love the fact that I made time to make it for them. And that's what matters most - as long it tastes okay :-).

You did a great job. It is so hard when kids request difficult cakes and I really stink at it. I took one of those classes at Michael's too and still stink at it ;) I think you have the gift or you don't. You did a MUCH better job than I would have :)

Oh my... well, you gave it a try, and I'm sure it was delish!! Loved that cookbook as a kid - I think I told you that my neighbors had that same one - and we made that cake one day and invited all the neighborhood kids over for a tea party. I'm sure it looked as wonderful as yours!! :)

My mom has that cookbook I used to love it when I was a kid. I had forgotten all about it.
