no ordinary day for me

I got a play day this week. I spent yesterday on a field trip with my daughter, Alison's, Spanish class. They've been learning about Spanish architecture and artists and the culmination of this unit was a field trip to the Nelson Art Museum, a traditional Spanish meal at Rudy's and a walking art tour on the Country Club Plaza.

I was thrilled when Alison asked me if I'd like to join her on this outing as a parent sponsor. She hasn't had a field trip since about 5th or 6th grade so considering that she'll be a senior next year, I thought I better take advantage of this opportunity as it is very likely that it may be the last.

Our tour at the Nelson was wonderful. A very informative learning experience. We only saw a very small portion of their collection as the tour centered around Spanish artists. Our docent was very knowledgable and it was obvious that she was very passionate about art. There's so much to learn. Just looking at a piece does not make one appreciate it. The stories, the symbolism, the background of the artist are all so very important and so interesting.

When our tour completed, it was time for lunch. Rudy's is a quaint little place in Westport and one that I'd never been to before. I enjoyed cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. A favorite meal of mine.

Last stop for the day was the Country Club Plaza. CCP is a wonderful place for shopping, live entertainment, people watching and art. Yes, art. There are many sculptures and fountains throughout the CCP. The students had 12 pieces of art that they were to locate and photograph themselves with. I've been to the CCP many times but never before had I done the walking tour. Another learning experience that was so enjoyable -- good company and good weather.

By the time we finished I needed a refreshment. I ducked into a Panera and ordered myself a Frozen Mango -- mango with raspberry swirl and fresh whipped cream. Oh. My. Word. Isn't she lovely?

It was like summer in a cup. One sip and I thought I had gone to a tropical paradise. I'm definitely going to have to have another sometime soon.

I can't tell you what a nice change of pace this was for me -- a day out of the office, a day with some of my favorite girls and strolling in the beautiful warm air. It just doesn't get any better than this.

And here are my favorite girls. These gals have been the best of friends since they went to preschool together at the age of 4. I love them all.

loved reading this. Field trips seem to go by the wayside quickly after a certain age. I love how your day seemed like a mini-vacation. Awesome.
