Summer Fare | Garden Fresh Green Beans

Last week my friend, Sarah, gave me some green beans. Garden fresh green beans. From her garden. I was thrilled. Nothing tastes better than garden fresh produce.

Now I have to make a confession. I had never cooked fresh green beans before. So I turned to a reliable source of know how in my kitchen. This book.

Did you know that fresh green beans need to be boiled and not steamed? I didn't, until now.

I followed the basic recipe for prepping the beans and then selected the recipe for Green Beans with Bacon & Onion. Dee-lish! They were a perfect addition to our July 4th barbeque. They were so good that our oldest made a meal out of the leftovers all by themselves.

you have a nice friend - NOTHING beats garden fresh! hmm...that makes me want to plant a garden next year, even though my yard is a postage stamp and i have no green thumb :) but it would be so great to have my own produce!

my kids love bacon - they would probably just sit and pick the bacon out knowing them. I love fresh green beans. yum

My husband loves green beans. I have to say that I'm not such a fan but I think that bacon might make them doable.

green beans only rock with bacon or ham and cooked really well until all that meaty goodness cooks into them.

and can i tell you that every time i bake potatoes i have to look up how long they cook for and regardless they always end up taking longer than i can stand!

lucky you to have a bean supplier. mine are just blooming now!

Your post evoked so many memories. This is the only way my grandma would cook them.

Thank you so much for sending me down memory lane!
